Golf Society

To calculate an initial handicap we would normally require 3 cards from a member, witnessed by a current Society member. At times, this can be difficult to achieve, therefore we will usually take on trust an initial handicap as requested by the new member. After the first competitive round, the Handicap Member will calculate an Initial Handicap and adjust if necessary.

Important: Before playing in one of the majors (Spring, Championships or President's), new members will have to play at least two rounds in competitions or submit 3 cards for handicapping purposes.

Although, if the new member has an EGU recognised Club handicap then their Society handicap will be adjusted to match their Club handicap. Thereafter, the handicap will be adjusted according to the current Society handicapping scheme, with the following stipulations:

  1. The Players ability and therefore their handicap will be monitored and adjusted (if required) by the Committee.
  2. If the Player is a member of a Golf Club they have an obligation to inform the Committee if their handicap is reduced below their Society Handicap. The Society Handicap will then be reduced.

The Society purchased and use a software program called HandicapMaster to administer handicaps.

Because the Society are not an EGU recognised Golf Club, we use the Society Edition. This allows us to calculate the Competition Scratch Score (CSS) in one of four ways.

  1. The CSS is set to equal the Average of the Top Third of Net Scores in the Competition.
  1. The CSS is set to equal the Standard Scratch Score of the Course.
  2. The CSS is set to equal the PAR of the Course.
  3. The CSS is set to equal the Average of NET Scores in the Competition.

The Society voted at the AGM to continue with option 1.

The adjustment after a Handicap Qualifying round will be made from the table below, according to the category of handicap of the member.
