SINGLES COMPETITION

1. Matches are to be singles match play.

2. Handicap allowance will be the FULL difference between Handicaps.

3. It is the responsibility of both players in each match to organize a mutually agreed date and venue.

4. The winning player is to inform the Competitions Secretary of the result.

5. All matches are to be played by the due date. An extension may be granted in certain circumstances. If the match is not played despite the best efforts of the players involved agreeing a date then one of two outcomes is possible. Either one player concedes the match, in which case the winner informs the Competitions Secretary in accordance with Rule 4 or the match will be decided by the toss of a coin. Ideally this should be done by the players involved but if a result is not forthcoming by the due date then it will be done by the Competitions Secretary with at least one other Committee Member in attendance.

Decision 14-3/0.5 in the 2006-2007 Decisions on the Rules of Golf

This Decision enables a Committee to introduce a Local Rule permitting golfers to use a distance measuring device to obtain distance information during a round.

Without such a Local Rule, the use of such a device is a breach of Rule 14-3, the penalty for which is disqualification.

AWC Golf Society Committee Decision

It was decided at an AWC GS Committee Meeting held on the 31 Jan 06 that we shall introduce a Local Rule to cover the use of Distance Measuring Devices.

AWC Golf Society Local Rule No. 1

For all play in the AWC Golf Society, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (eg gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.
